The public is invited to celebrate the Earth at Lake Sammamish State Park, April 20 - May 2. A full slate of activities is planned to support conservation and the environment in honor of Earth Day, Arbor Day and Audubon Day.
“Celebrate the Earth,” a do-it-yourself walk in the park, will start at Sunset Beach. Bring the family to enjoy the walk while you learn about the park’s wildlife and natural habitat.
On April 24 and 25, Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park will also host habitat restoration and landscaping work parties for weeding, mulching, and planting. All volunteers will receive free native seeds to take home and plant. To sign up, visit www.lakesammamishfriends.org/events.
The celebration also includes great giveaways that promote conservation. The City of Issaquah and Cascade Water Alliance have donated water-saving devices including kitchen faucet aerators, a sprinkler education DVD, water reducing showerheads, and shower timers.
Michael’s Subaru of Bellevue is also supporting the event with free seeds, gloves, and blossom kits. Items will be distributed while supplies last, 12-4 p.m. April 24-25 near the all-access playground.
Earth Day at the park is sponsored by Visit Issaquah, Michaels’ Subaru of Bellevue and Porth Orthodontics.
The City of Issaquah and several other local organizations are hosting a variety of other events, both face-to-face and virtual, in celebration of Earth Month.
The public can sign up for virtual gardening classes, help Keep Issaquah Beautiful with plantings and trash pick-ups, and even register to pick up a free compost bin or rain barrel! In addition, Recology will be hosting a “What Goes Where?” webinar about how to properly sort your recycling and reduce waste.
